Ingredients
- 1 large onion
- 4 stalks celery
- 1 green bell pepper
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 12 oz tomato paste
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons firmly packed brown sugar
- 2 cups textured vegetable protein
- 4 cups water
- salt & pepper
- 12 hamburger buns
Directions
- Cut onion into ¼-inch pieces
- Cut celery into ¼-inch pieces
- Cut bell pepper into ¼ pieces
- Add oil in a large skillet over medium heat
- Cook 10-12 minutes (or until onion is translucent), stir frequently:
- Onion
- Celery
- Bell pepper
- Stir in the following and cook for 5 minutes:
- Tomato paste (12 oz)
- Ketchup (1 cup)
- Mustard (2 tablespoons)
- Brown sugar (2 tablespoons)
- Add textured protein (2 cups) and water (4 cups) and stir well
- Cook over medium heat for 10-12 minutes or until water is completely absorbed
- Season with salt and pepper
