Vanilla ice cream

Ingredients

Ice cream

  • 1 ¾ cups heavy cream
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ⅛ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean split in half lengthwise
  • 1 ¼ cup whole milk
  • (optional) 2 cups of add-ins

Tools

  • Small sauce pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • Ice cream maker

Directions

  1. If your ice cream maker needs any preparation do this before starting. Mine requires the center to be frozen for a day.
  2. Pour 1 cup of the heavy cream into the sauce pan and add ¾ cup of sugar and ⅛ teaspoon of salt.
  3. (optional) Scrape the vanilla beans into the pot and then add the vanilla pod
  4. Warm the mixture over medium heat, just until the sugar dissolves then immediately remove from heat.
  5. Pour the warm mixture into the mixing bowl and add the following ingredients:
    1. heavy cream (¾ cup)
    2. whole milk (1 ¼ cup)
    3. vanilla extract (1 tablespoon)
  6. Stir to combine
  7. Chill in the refrigerator about 20 minutes
  8. Remove vanilla pod
  9. Pour into ice cream maker and follow instructions for use of your machine.
  10. Add the add-ins towards the end of your ice cream makers process so that they don’t get overly dissolved into the ice cream.
